Frozen Fruits and Vegetables from Egypt: a Buyer Guide for Importers

Egypt is one of the fastest-growing origins for IQF frozen fruits and vegetables. A warm climate with two growing seasons, a large farming area along the Nile and short sailing times to Mediterranean and European ports make it a reliable source for importers, wholesalers, food service and food manufacturers. This guide, written by the export team at Egy Berries — an Egyptian grower, manufacturer and exporter — explains which products are available, when they are produced, how they are packed and how to order.

Why source frozen produce from Egypt?

  • Two seasons a year: winter crops (strawberries, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, artichoke, broad beans) and summer crops (mango, peppers, okra, molokhia, sweet corn) keep factories running for most of the year.
  • Short transit to Europe and good container connections to Asia and the Americas.
  • Food safety: leading Egyptian freezers work under international schemes such as FSSC 22000, HACCP and GLOBALG.A.P., and are registered for the US and Chinese markets.
  • Competitive, vertically integrated supply: many producers, like Egy Berries, control farming, freezing and cold storage themselves.
